Scale and Resolution:
SCALE or RESOLUTION define the resolution desired for the image to be created by Map-A-Planet. Resolution (or Scale) indicates the size of an image pixel with respect to the actual ground distance represented by the pixel. For Map-A-Planet, Scale units are expressed as kilometers per pixel (kilometers/pixel) and Resolution units are expressed as pixels per degree (pixels/degree).

Indicate the desired units by selecting from the "pop-down-menu", then enter the desired scale/resolution value in the entry field provided. An entry of 32 with "pixels/degree" units selected results in an image with a resolution such that each degree of longitude is represented by 32 image pixels. An entry of 10 with "kilometers/pixel" units selected results in an image with a resolution such that each image pixel represents a ground distance of 10 kilometers.

When entering values for SCALE/RESOLUTION, keep in mind the following information regarding the highest (maximum) image resolution available for various data sets;

Highest resolutions available for currently supported data sets:

moon_clementine_bw 303 pixels/degree .1 kilometers/pixel mars_viking_bw (MDIM1) 256 pixels/degree .2314 kilometers/pixel v2mars_viking_bw (MDIM2)256 pixels/degree .2314 kilometers/pixel mars__viking_color 64 pixels/degree .9254 kilometers/pixel mars_viking_merged 64 pixels/degree .9254 kilometers/pixel venus_magellan_fmap 1408 pixels/degree .075 kilometers/pixel callisto_galileo_bw 42 pixels/degree .9974 kilometers/pixel
